THE CHRISTIAN EMBASSY IN WASHINGTON, D. C.: THE EMBASSY’S OFFICIAL LOGO
I recently heard of an unusual seemingly political agency in Washington, D. C., The Christian Embassy, which must be something like the official residence of an ambassador sent by one ruler or country as its formal representative to the United States, right? Wrong. When I searched in vain for just one picture of this particular embassy building in D. C., the closest thing that I could find was a suburban Virginia address, which turned out to be the home of The Christian Embassy’s leader (or ambassador).
What I have learned is that Washington’s Christian Embassy was established in 1975 as an evangelical branch of The Campus Crusade for Christ, and it zealously brings the gospel to major governmental/political leaders in Washington, D. C. It’s staff members facilitate over 40 weekly Bible studies on Capitol Hill, in the White House, at the Pentagon and inside various foreign embassies. Through its outreaches, seminars and events, this ministry claims to have been winning, building and sending our elected national governmental representatives, including President George W. Bush and other top members of his administration, on a mission to make a national political impact for Jesus Christ.
Some of you might find the video presented below to be somewhat unsettling. I know that I certainly do.

I managed to watch about 4 minutes of the video. It is scary indeed to think that the Pentagon is filled with people who align themselves with Christ. Nothing wrong with that per se, but it still seems eerily “old testament” to me as the military approaches things with an “eye for an eye” attitude. What s next? The CIA does not torture people, it “crucifies” them? Sheesh!

Hi,
That’s about all that I could watch also. I honestly believe that when others find religious belief to be a major source of satisfaction and nurturance for their lives, that belief should be respected. My concerns here are about when an activist religious movement becomes increasingly proud of influencing the nation’s politically and militarily powerful (as well as their policies and decisions). The movement then becomes, it seems to me, a fairly powerful political force, disguised in the robes of specific religious creed.
Thanks, as always, for your comments!

yea,
It is so ironic too. Like that Dylan song, With God On Our Side, it can justify any actions, legitimize the most horrendous acts and all in the name of The Lord.
What I hate about the political structure here in the “West” is how our lame democratic processes just keep giving power to people who will abuse the priviledge.

Right, but for Dylan (I think at least in his earlier days), he was being ironic. But, then again, it’s doubly ironic that he later became a born-again Christian!
With very best wishes!

Disturbing.
p.s. I like what you’ve done with the place.

I stopped this video at about four minutes in, as well, although I hadn’t yet read the comments posted by others. I am a Christian — which is a word I am generally loathe to use in describing myself because it holds no consensual social meaning that I would recognize as having any relation whatsoever to my beliefs about the meaning of Christ or salvation.
This video, produced by the oxymoronically named ‘Christian Embassy,’ implies a Christ who is a stooge to those who have chosen paths that cede spiritual redemption to the indulgence of crass tribalism. The creepy implicit reverence for occupations that are fundamentally at odds with Christian spirituality is so palpable that I suspect this video would even offend the Christian sensibilities of a lifelong atheist. The most destructive message in this video is that Christianity is no place for people with creative minds, earnest hearts or psychological and moral integrity. Unfortunately, Christians seem overwhelmingly committed to spreading just such a message.
