A Jet Airliner’s Steadily Increasing Whine, While Polar Bears Plummet to Bloody Deaths
Polar Bear is a sick 1-minute short film directed by Daniel Kleinman, developed for the airline pollution activists Plane Stupid. The cinema ad was created, “To confront people with the impact that short-haul flights have on the climate. It used polar bears because they’re a well understood symbol of the effect that climate change is having on the natural world.” Polar Bear is an extremely graphic cinema campaign that features dozens of animated polar bears falling from the sky onto a city center, bouncing off skyscrapers and landing in the street and on the roof of a car, accompanied by blood-spurting special effects. The only sound, apart from the bone-crunching thump of the bears’ impacts, is the steadily increasing whine of a jet airliner’s engines.
No real bears were used or injured in this film. The polar bears were animations, created by a special effects company using its proprietary fur software to make the film look as realistic as possible.
