Those Crazy Coney Island Dayze: The Sexy Mermaid Parade Celebration

Those Crazy Coney Island Dayze: The Sexy Mermaid Parade Celebration

Today, Coney Island again burst forth with New Yorkers in outrageous mermaid and King Neptune costumes, a display of topless women in pasties and colorfully clad drag queens making their way down the boardwalk among a swarm of arts-and-crafts floats. The beautiful zaniness is all part of the annual Mermaid Parade, which for 30 years has celebrated the first weekend of summer.

This year, however, the parade faced its demise after its sponsor, Coney Island USA, had its headquarters damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Combined with rising insurance premiums, the costs of crowd control and Porta-Potties for several hundred thousand people, the parade needed an infusion of an additional $100,000, or it wouldn’t have lived to see its 31st edition.

The Mermaid Parade is an annual event that first took place at Coney Island in 1983 and has been a very popular attraction ever since. The Mermaid Parade draws a huge crowd of celebrators, who don wild and outrageous costumes, with the parade’s naughty marchers wearing sea-themed outfits that often leave little to the imagination.

This year, clad in costumes that combined seashells and glitter, scores of exuberant revelers gyrated through Coney Island on Saturday. An estimated half-million people lined the sunny streets to watch ogle Brooklyn’s version of Mardi Gras. The flamboyant marchers, many of whom wore their costumes on the subway out to Coney Island, much to the amusement of their fellow riders, walked on the boardwalk alongside colorful floats and danced to several live bands blaring out top 40 hits and old-time standards.

The Little Submarine: Soccer, Food, Hot Women and a Very Sexy Blastoff!

The Little Submarine: Soccer, Food, Hot Women and a Very Sexy Blastoff!

Sub! is an award-winning, very strange Rhode Island School of Design animated short film by Jesse Schmal. The epic film’s totally got the goods; the short’s weird, wickedly funny, and sad, and then weird again.

Sub! begins with an Italian piazza being invaded by an unlikely intruder. A little submarine suddenly bursts out of the piazza’s fountain, becoming a link between all the characters there. The funny film shows what each character does with the little submarine to get themselves out of the jam in which they started off: the dog won’t eat, there’s no whistle to start the soccer match and the sexy woman won’t accept a lusty dude’s advances.

Prom Night: A Litany of Sexy Lovers at the Prom

Prom Night: A Litany of Sexy Lovers at the Prom

Prom Night is a wild, high-energy eight-minute narrative short film by director/performer/choreographer Celia Rowlson-Hall, which premiered at SXSW last year. Rowlson-Hall stars as a/the/your prom-date in this beautiful, surreal, reference-laden piece. The film takes a very simple concept, a look at the cultural trappings that come with dream girls and trips to the prom, and knocks it out of the park.

Hall, who stars in the film, looks straight into the camera and takes the viewer through a dance in an empty school gymnasium decorated for the prom. While The Ronettes’ Be My Little Baby plays, through a series of wardrobe alterations and spontaneous costume and hairstyle changes, Hall leads the viewer through a litany of archetypal lovers: from the holy virginal, to Lolita, to Carrie. Prom Night is such an engrossing dance/performance short film that you won’t dare take your eyes off of it.

The Movie Geek’s Guide to Talking Dirty is a wildly sexy and funny short film created by Oliver Noble for FilmDrunk.com. Movies are about seeing our fantasies lived out on the silver screen; sometimes it’s about being a sports hero, a brave soldier or creating fairytale romances. And then there’s the really nasty, dirty stuff. This film presents a fairly comprehensive cut of cinematic nasty sex talk and post-coitus whisperings (and by nasty there’s lots of raunchy humping, but no actual nudity). This amazing clip opens a little peephole to the greatest, filthiest, most hilarious non-porn dirty talk and sex scenes in recent film memory!

More information about the film and a full list of the movies is provided here.

Booty Dance is a gleefully sexy one-minute short film, also by LA photographer Cyril Helnwein, comprised of behind-the-scenes footage of a model fooling around during a photo shoot. The unforgettable face was drawn on the model by the legendary comic artist Dan Panosian.
