(IF) THIS IS IT…
And If It’s Not?
Posted by Andrew Sullivan yesterday for readers of The Daily Dish, his Time Magazine blog. To me, this is a very peculiar music video, which juxtapositions rapidly shifting experiences of the seemingly normal, the truly bizarre, adolescence, young adulthood, mature adulthood, sadness, coldness, rejection, strivings for superficial romance, and ending with a seemingly warm romantic scene that, at the same time, reflects a major psychological marker of depression: the depressive happy wish (e.g., everything is terrible, full of angst and pain; then suddenly “everything’s wonderful and everyone lives happily ever after“). But not quite so wonderful. The use of escape through the abuse of fantasy (the depressive happy wish) is seldom a reliable long-term defense. Accordingly, at the conclusion of the video a vicious predator is stealthily moving from its own environment into the human one, about to strike the members of a seemingly unsuspecting family! But, of course, you should be your own the judge of this video….
