JENNIFER HUDSON RECEIVES ACADEMY AWARDS NOMINATION
JENNIFER HUDSON: THE DREAMGIRL
Former “American Idol” finalist and Golden Globes winner Jennifer Hudson received an Academy Award nomination today for the Best Supporting Actress for her role as the soulful singer in “Dreamgirls.” Hudson seems to be well on her way toward winning an Oscar this year.
The front-runners in all four acting categories garnered nominations and seem poised to come home from Hollywood with Oscars on February 25th. Those actors who were nominated include: Helen Mirren for best actress as British monarch Elizabeth II in “The Queen“; Forest Whitaker for best actor as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland”; and Eddie Murphy and former “American Idol” finalist Jennifer Hudson as the unwanted singer in “Dreamgirls.”
All four of them preceded the Oscar nominations with wins at The Golden Globes ceremonies. For Chicagoan Jennifer Hudson, this Academy Award nomination crowns a speedy rise to stardom with her first film role, just two years after making her name on “American Idol.” Hudson’s stunning singing performance of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” in “Dreamgirls” recently has been described as the greatest motion picture song of all time.
