One Man Band: The Saga of Two One-Man-Bands and a Humble Peasant Girl

One Man Band is a 2005 Pixar animated short film, which was nominated for the 2006 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. In this animated short, a street musician who plays multiple brass instruments tries to get a humble little peasant girl to tip him a coin. But then another musician steps into the scene with orchestral instruments, and they instantly become rivals, fighting over the poor little girl’s coin until she accidentally drops it into a sewer-drain. The girl starts to cry and is then becomes angered by the two musicians having caused her to lose it, and demands that the two one-man-bands come up with a replacement for her coin. When they reveal that they are poor and broke, she takes one of the little violins from the orchestra one-man-band, re-tunes it and plays like a true virtuoso. A rich man happens to pass by and is so pleased with her performance that he rewards her with a large bag of golden coins. She takes out two coins for the one-man-bands and tosses them up into the top of a fountain, leaving the two musicians awkwardly scrambling in vain to reach the top in an attempt to grab the coins.
