James Franco’s Sexed-Up Short Film: Walking After Midnight

James Franco’s Sexed-Up Short Film: Walking After Midnight

Walking After Midnight is a dynamic new fashion film directed by James Franco for shoe label Stuart Weitzman, which is being presented in a series of four episodes. This first episode stars model Petra Nemcova, who wears white Swarovski crystal-studded pumps and very little else.

Franco’s storyline for the film was inspired by the 1989 film Mondo New York, which followed a young woman as she encountered bizarre characters in seedy places around the city. Franco’s version is obviously more upscale and aspirational, with Nemcova taking long nighttime walks through Manhattan hot spots like Le Baron, Peels Restaurant, The Hole art gallery and Freeman’s Alley. The soundtrack is Girl in a Coma’s rendition of Patsy Cline’s Walking After Midnight.

The next three episodes will be released on consecutive “Weitzman Wednesdays” throughout October.

L’Odyssée de Cartier: The Cartier Panthere Travels the World Searching for Inspiration

L’Odyssée de Cartier: The Cartier Panthere Travels the World Searching for Inspiration

L’Odyssee de Cartier is a dazzling 3 1/2-minute CGI short film directed by Bruno Aveillan, which was nearly two years in the making with a team of 50 people. The original score for L’Odyssee de Cartier was composed and arranged by renowned orchestrator Pierre Adenot and recorded at London’s legendary Abbey Road studios; special effects were created by Digital District.

The movie, showcasing Cartier’s standout creativity and innovation, centers around the iconic Cartier Panthere traveling around the world in search of inspiration. The diamond encrusted Panthere comes to life after the lights go down in Cartier’s Paris flagship store and then takes an intricate CGI journey around the world, visiting Russian royals taking a horse-drawn carriage ride, then conversing with a dragon that becomes the Great Wall of China, and then encountering one of India’s famous roving palaces (on top of an elephant) before being flown back to France by Alberto Santos-Dumont, the aviation pioneer for whom the Cartier Santos wrist watch is named.

Poetic Moments: A Celebration of Young Masculine Beauty

Poetic Moments: A Celebration of Young Masculine Beauty

Photography by: Toyin Ibidapo, London

The fleeting beauty of youth is captured in this mesmerizing collection of raw, honest portraits of androgynous boys that documents the authenticity of youth, from London-based photographer Toyin Ibidapo. A tribute to the charged emotions of adolescence, Ibidapo’s first solo show There’s No Such Thing as Perfect, But There’s Perfection in the Things We Love, is currently on exhibition at the Doors Showcase Gallery in London.

Ibidapo is a fashion photographer who has collaborated with the late Alexander McQueen, super-stylist Nicola Formichetti and designer Kim Jones, as well as contributing to Dazed & Confused, Arena Homme Plus and SHOWstudio. The exhibition evolved from Ibidapo’s book Cult of Boys, which she describes as a “record of amazing moments and various chapters in my life as a photographer as well as the faces in this book. They represent themselves and they also represent me because it was my vision and they came into my world, some for years, others just once. But sometimes once is all you need, one photograph to remember a poetic moment forever. Seen through the eyes of the female gaze.”

The Very Sexy Brothers of Arcadia

The Very Sexy Brothers of Arcadia

Brothers of Arcadia is an amazingly erotic four-minute short fashion film for Thierry Mugler, which was directed by Branislav Jankic. The film features a number of mostly-naked men with stunning physiques to grab your attention. It starts off slowly with a dramatic, black and white beachside romp set to classical music, with the leading men wearing nothing but briefs and some bling. However, the mood quickly changes when vibrant colors emerge, as well as a bumping techno jam by Jessica 6. Viewers  are transported into a steamy underground photo-shoot that seems to have a Greek gods and soldiers theme, which is appropriate because these dudes are, like, chiseled from marble.

Iris is a short film created by fashion photographer Barnaby Roper.  Many people don’t fall for these non-narrative fashion films, but Roper along with supermodel Iris Stubegger really hit it out of the ballpark with this short film for Nowness.  It’s got a great look, great clothes, cool effects and excellent sound design.  A real winner, just in time for New York City’s Fashion Week!
